West Knox County

Home Improvement in Concord, Tennessee

Concord homes sit close to Fort Loudoun Lake, and many of the projects we see here start outdoors before moving inside. We plan decks, floors, paint and remodels around the lot you actually have.

Wood pergola built over a backyard patio in west Knox County

Start with the slope

Many Concord lots tilt toward Fort Loudoun Lake or a nearby cove, and that one fact shapes a lot of outdoor work here. A deck that looks simple on paper can need posts that are much taller at one end than the other, a stair run long enough to reach the yard, and footings set where the soil actually holds. When you invite us out, we walk the grade with you before talking about railings or board colors, because the slope decides what is practical.

Things we look at on a sloped or lake-facing lot:

  • Where water goes after a storm. Runoff down a hillside can pool around footings or wash soil from under a patio edge.
  • Height and railing needs. A deck that sits well above grade on the downhill side needs guards and stairs built to code, and that affects the budget.
  • Sun and shade. Decks that face open water often take full afternoon sun. A pergola or partial cover can make the space usable in July.
  • Material choice. Pressure-treated lumber and composite boards behave differently in heat and damp. We explain the trade-offs so you can weigh upkeep against cost.

Our deck and pergola work covers new builds, refinishing and replacing worn boards on existing frames when the structure underneath is still sound.

Moving indoors

Once the outdoor plan is settled, Concord homeowners often turn to the rooms that open onto it. A family room with a sliding door to the deck takes more foot traffic, more grit and more wet shoes than any other room in the house. That is where flooring choices matter. Hardwood brings warmth but shows scratches; tile handles moisture but feels cold underfoot; luxury vinyl plank sits somewhere in between. Our flooring installation team will help you match the material to how the room is really used.

Paint is the other common request. Big windows facing the water flood a room with light, which can make a color look very different at noon than it did on the sample card. We suggest testing swatches on more than one wall and checking them at different times of day before you choose. Our interior and exterior painting also covers cabinet refinishing if the kitchen needs a lift without a full tear-out.

Kitchens, baths and finished basements

Larger west Knox County homes tend to have kitchens built around an island and bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. When those rooms start to feel dated, the question is usually whether to update finishes or change the layout. Moving plumbing or removing a wall costs far more than new cabinets and counters, so we lay out both paths in a written estimate. On hillside homes with a walk-out lower level, a basement conversion can add a guest suite or rec room that opens straight to the yard. Our remodeling services handle the carpentry, drywall, flooring and finish work under one team.

A note on HOAs and paperwork

Many planned neighborhoods in the Concord area have architectural guidelines that cover fences, decks, exterior colors and sometimes even pergola style. If you live in one, request the approval form early; the review can take longer than the build. As for building permits, your Concord address alone does not tell you which office is responsible, so we check that for you and say so in the estimate.

Around Concord

We regularly work just up the road in Farragut and across the rest of Knox County, from Hardin Valley to the north down to the rural south end of the county. When you are ready to talk through your project, book a free estimate and we will come see the lot in person.

Questions From Concord Homeowners

My backyard drops off toward the water. Can you still build a deck there?

Usually, yes. A steep or uneven yard changes the design more than it rules a deck out. Expect taller posts, deeper footings, more bracing and often a stair run that has to land somewhere sensible. We look at the grade during the estimate and explain which layouts make sense before you commit to one.

Which office handles permits for a Concord address?

It depends on exactly where the property sits. Some homes with a Concord mailing address are in unincorporated Knox County, while others fall inside the Town of Farragut or the City of Knoxville. We confirm the jurisdiction for your lot and tell you upfront whether your project needs a permit.

Should I add a pergola to my deck now or later?

If you think you will want one, it is easier to plan for it while the deck is being framed, because the posts and the framing beneath them can be sized for the extra load. Adding one later is possible, but it can mean extra reinforcement work.
